Dennis Hauger’s 25 point FIA F3 Championship lead would seem a lot more comfortable had it not been 63 points just a week ago. That is how much damage fellow Red Bull Junior Jack Doohan did to it at Spa.
The 18-year-old Norwegian championship leader is confident that normal service will be resumed at Zandvoort this weekend and Australian 18-year-old Doohan is determined to continue the roll he started so brilliantly at the very wet and slippery Belgium Grand Prix.
The Dutch venue has of course had a major revision with a dramatic banked final corner and Ayumu Iwasa, Jonny Edgar and Jak Crawford have the advantage of track time there in F4 cars before stepping up to F3.
Hauger for a reset
“I am looking to reset after Spa,” explained the Prema driver. “We know that the problems we had were particular for that circuit and we did get on top of things for Race 3. Wet or dry there will not be a repeat this weekend.”
“I have not driven the new layout here, it looks cool having driven it in the sim, a special challenge and quite different to other circuits with the new banking, there are different ways to take it. It’s not going to be easy to overtake on this track.”
“I’m looking for a consistent weekend and getting back to the way things were before Spa.”
Doohan to keep on as before
“It’s a new circuit for me, never raced here, I’m really keen to work and prepare everything with the team as best as possible and hopefully continue our form from Spa,” enthused the Trident driver.
“I’ve run the track in the sim but of course the real thing is different, I’m really looking forward to getting out on track and being on the pace again.”
“The banking looks really cool, it’s going to be really important to manage the tyres accordingly, through the long last corner there will be quite a lot of load on the front right, especially. Hopefully that tyre doesn’t get destroyed.”
“It’s going to be good to experience that but I am just going to keep concentrating session by session and make sure we are ticking off all the jobs that we need to do.”
