This year will mark the 75th time that the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps has been run at the legendary rollercoaster of a circuit in Belgium’s Ardennes region. From 29th June to July 1st, BWT Mücke Motorsport will be competing in the GT4 European Series as part of the support package for the endurance classic which was first contested in 1924. In both races, the team will field two Mercedes-AMG GT4s, driven by four of BWT Mücke Motorsport drivers from the ADAC GT4 Germany series and the Prototype Cup Germany.
Two young, talented drivers, Rodrigo Almeida (19, Mozambique) and Josef Knopp (19, Czech Republic) will share the drive in the Mercedes-AMG GT4 with start number #28. While Almeida is already in his second year with BWT Mücke Motorsport in a Mercedes-AMG GT4, Knopp knows the outfit well from single-seater racing where he has been successful with BWT Mücke Motorsport in both the Italian Formula 4 Championship and in Formula 4 UAE.
Emil Gjerdrum (16, Norway) and Nico Göhler (20, Germany) will line up in the second car with start number #38. Gjerdrum made his ADAC GT4 Germany debut this season in a Mercedes-AMG GT4 prepared by BWT Mücke Motorsport and has also competed in a number of races in the GT4 European Series. He finished sixth along with teammate Alex Connor on his debut at Oschersleben.
Emil will be sharing the drive with Nico Göhler, who is a competitor in this year’s Prototype Cup Germany in a BWT Mücke Motorsport LMP3 prototype. At the wheel of the team’s Duqueine D08 prototype last weekend, Nico secured the outfit’s first ever LMP3 podium, taking second place at Zandvoort along with teammate Gustavo Kiryla.
The Spa-Francorchamps race weekend will get under way this Thursday, June 29th, with two one-hour practice sessions at 14:00 and 20:05. Qualifying will be on Friday, June 30th at 11:30. The two races will be run on Friday at 18:00 and Saturday 1st July at 13:15. Both races and qualifying can be seen live on the GT4 European Series website and on the GTWorld YouTube channel.
