Another victory, another clean sheet! Johan Kristoffersson completely dominated the third round of the World Rallycross Championship in Nyirád, Hungary.
«We have worked efficiently with the car, taken smart steps and found good speed» says Kristoffersson. Ole Christian Veiby made sure it was a double victory and a total triumph for Kristoffersson Motorsport.
Johan Kristoffersson was completely superior in the rain-soaked race in Höljes a couple of weeks ago. On dry ground in the blazing sun, he was just as dominating in his electric Volkswagen RX1e: fastest in all qualifying rounds, victory in the semi-final and a convincing triumph in the final. It was the 47th World RX victory for the seven-time world champion.
«We had a few problems in training at the beginning, but we improved constantly during the weekend» says Kristoffersson.
The only one who came close to beating the most victorious of all time in rallycross was his teammate Veiby, who made a fantastic start in Q2 and was ahead of Kristoffersson down to the first corner. However, Johan responded with an early joker and a lap that only he can set.
– What a start he got there! I had to push in the joker to catch up, says Kristoffersson.
Ole Christian, who had some technical problems in Höljes, now showed that he wants to be in the fight for the podium places, as he even matched Johan’s lap times at times. In both the semi-final and the final, he followed unchallenged to the finish line as second and secured good points for himself in the drivers’ championship and for KMS in the teams’ championship.
«The starts have worked well all weekend. There are a couple of sections on this track that don’t come naturally to me. I probably have some rally in my spine, but I still had good speed overall.»
In summary, Veiby is now fourth with 50 points, five ahead of Timmy Hansen in third place.
The team CEO for KMS was of course extremely pleased with the results in the third round, the second after the switch to electric cars.
