Making the point

The pair backed up their podiums with a fifth and a sixth each but it was the victory that made the weekend. “Yes finally I got the win,” grinned Hauger. “Not a bad weekend really, the win and going from P6 to P4 in the championship.”

“Race 1 was fun, I started P2, got a good start, got ahead and played it cool all the way to stay ahead. Then on the second-to-last lap I got pushed out mid corner so he (Kiern Jewiss) was penalised and I got the win.”

“In Race 2 I was blocked all the way and just couldn’t get out of P6, it was just about the same in Race 3, I was running older tyres than the guy in front and had quite a bit of oversteer so had no chance to get ahead of him. Still we got good points there and we can keep improving, it was great to get the first win.”

Faster and faster

Doohan gave the weekend a qualified thumbs up. “Yes it wasn’t bad, could have been better, P2 in Race 2 was good and the speed was there by the second race. If we’d had that speed earlier, the weekend might have been different but we struggled at the beginning to get the sett-up right. Just couldn’t get the front to work the way we needed but kept changing and improving every session so that is progress.»

«I enjoyed Race 2, put as much pressure on as I could for P1 but when you get close you just lose too much downforce on the front and it’s very hard to pass. It was the same in all the races really. In the last one I got from P7 to P6 and started to put some pressure on Dennis, that was fun.”

“But then there was some oil on one corner and I went over that and got in a bit of trouble, dropped back and even though I started catching again it was too late by then. Still, good points again and now we go to Croft where we know we are well set up from the test this week.”
