#24 Dennis Hauger (NOR – Arden Ford)
British F4 Championship position: 3rd – 317 points – after 27 of 30 races (2nd Rookie)
#33 Jack Doohan (AUS – Arden Ford)
British F4 Championship position: 4th – 314 points – after 27 of 30 races (1st Rookie)
Brands bookends the British F4 season but now it is the Grand Prix circuit. That is fitting for these F1 hopefuls as the 15-year-old Red Bull Juniors, Norwegian Dennis Hauger and Australian Jack Doohan, settle their season long battle to be best Rookie as well as taking it to the more established stars.
Coming off his triple podium weekend at Silverstone Doohan has the upper hand in the Rookie battle, leading Hauger 500 points to 485 but in the overall table it is Hauger who has the advantage 317 to 314 in the knife-edge fight for third. In fact, with a total of 75 points on offer from the three races, they could be battling for second.
Hauger already has four overall victories this season and Doohan three, they have a great podium haul, 10 and 12, none of the other Rookies are even close, the Arden drivers have certainly made their mark.
Hauger ready for a final challenge
«I think it’s a very interesting track, there is a lot to it,” explains Hauger. “We are not allowed to test there with formula cars, so it is all about how people will adapt, it’s going to be very interesting, I think quali will be the main thing as it is very hard to overtake.”
“Jack and I have done a few laps in a Caterham to have a look round, that was real fun to drive, not really a quick car but a lot of fun. So with that and the time in the sim I think I am as prepared as I can be. Overnight I will think it through in my head and be as ready as I can be for Free Practice on Friday.”
“Of course I go there wanting to win but I also know that there are a lot of points in three races and I shouldn’t do anything stupid. I will just focus forward and make the best of it,” he added.
Doohan wlll keep the car on the track
“I don’t have a lot of fixed ideas about the circuit yet as I haven’t driven there in a formula car,” said Doohan. “We did a couple of sessions in a Caterham on a track day to see which way it goes and that was fun but we’ll see on Friday. I think it should be good, the high speed section out the back should suit me and I am looking forward to it.”
“It’s a very interesting test to go there without any real experience, there are a few Rookies in the same situation as me so we’ll see how we all get on. At least we know the cars well by now so we should be in a good position to adapt quickly.”
“The Arden guys know what I like, they’ll combine that with their past settings for the GP circuit then we shouldn’t be far away. Then we’ve got time on Friday to get the car in the sweet spot for the weekend.”
“It will be good to get the Rookies Championship tied up this weekend but I also want to go for the win. So I’ll be pushing as hard as I can but I need to keep the car on the track,” he concluded.
